Debra's always commented that branding starts at your door step, your curb apparel colors can attract traffic, or not. When working for a local Dallas developer for new construction, her attention to detail and desire not to have white interior paint, caught the eye of the owner, he invited Debra to join in the design meetings.
A national paint mfg recruited Debra for national Multifamily sales, her exterior color programs jumpstarted the their apartment division. After designing 100 color schemes in one year, her niche in color design and her desire to expand the branding to include the apparel and promotional side, she opened Cooper Stepp in March 2000. "It was hard to walk away from an owner after telling him you look great on the outside, but you need assistance with your apparel & entry mats, resident retention, leasing giveaways, interior paint colors", "It's a whole branding package, you can't have one without the other, they compliment each other."
